Sierra Haynes is a proud graduate of the Studio 58 Professional Theatre Training Program. She is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM-Project Management Institute). Sierra Haynes is an emerging, multiple Dora Mavor Moore award winning, mixed-race, LGBTQ, multi-disciplinary artist from Treaty 4 (Regina), Saskatchewan Canada, now establishing herself in Toronto, ON. Previously, an Artistic Associate at the Globe Theatre in Regina and working primarily in theatres across the country, some of her recent credits include: NARNIA as Susan (Bad Hats Theatre/Crows Theatre/Soulepper Theatre); THE RED PRIEST as The Woman (Guild Festival Theatre); MISS CALEDONIA as Peggy Ann Douglas and music director (Globe Theatre); A TONIC FOR DESPERATE TIMES (Theatre Gargantua) She’s also worked in film, commercial, and cartoon as an actress. As a playwright, her play—in collaboration with Katie Abramovic—The Radium Girls (TED Talks NYC Residency finalist 2018), was meant to premiere as part of FourPlay: New Works by Excited Writers in March 2020, but was canceled due to Covid-19. In May 2020, her radio drama, I’m Right Here was produced and premiered thanks to the National Theatre School of Canada’s #ArtApart initiative. She is currently developing a new musical with Sydney Ballard centering around mental health and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The pair had a residency under the “Write From The Wings” initiative at The Arts Club theatre company in November 2021. Sydney and Sierra look forward to continuing its development with Pacific Theatre’s “Working With” program. Sierra has on-going mentorships with award winning Canadian theatre artists such as Tetsuro Shigematsu, Jennifer Brewin, and Anton Lipovetsky. Sierra was the 2024 Banff Playwright’s Lab Apprentice Dramaturg with mentorship from Brian Quirt, Jenna Rodgers, and Kodie Rollan. In 2025, Sierra was the Metcalf Dramaturgy and Producing Intern at Nightswimming (Brian Quirt, Gloria Mok). Sierra has a decade of radio experience (CJTR Community Radio/CBC). And developed a new podcast for The Globe Theatre, Stage Write: The Playwright’s Podcast, which invites Canadian playwrights into conversation over their work and inspirations. It is available to listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Her creative pursuits go beyond the theatre and extend into filmmaking where she’s trained and worked behind the camera as a script supervisor, producer, and is beginning her directing journey. She is proud to be a Saskatchewan filmmaker and is a member of ACTRA Saskatchewan as a Councillor and SMPIA. Recently, she helped produce Out Standing in His Field, a beautiful Saskatchewan film by Lynette Piper which won “Best Narrative Film” at the Vancouver Indie Film Festival among others. Sierra has been a mentee under the StartWith8Hollywood mentorship program for Women of Color in filmmaking. 2024 brings her first TV writing credit as Series Writer on AMI-tv’s The Squeaky Wheel: Canada, a satirical news program poking fun at the ableist world we live in. With a keen eye for story, character and production, Sierra brings her optimism, sense of humour, and work ethic to every project. She’s always excited to take on a new challenge and continue to refine her skills. Sierra has trained under some of Canada’s top folk musicians on the fiddle and brings her love of traditional Canadian folk music wherever she goes, and she’s up for a square dance at a moment’s notice!
