The Globe Cabaret: A Musical Theatre Review

I got the chance to perform with some truly gifted and versatile musicians in this concert put on by The Globe Theatre. It was such a memorable challenge to really put on my professional musician hat for this show. Although it was all about musicals, so we got to act…it really was a concert. I played 4 different instruments in this show!

Crazy Girl The Musical

heads into 1st workshop!

I’m so excited to visit Vancouver next month to workshop Crazy Girl The Musical with an extremely talented group of artists ahead of Pacific Theatre’s New Roots Festival. Sydney Ballard and I have been working on this show for three years, and we are so, SO ready to have other people sing these parts! We’ve been fortunate to have Promethean Theatre also believe in our work and come onto the Crazy Girl team as producing partners. I’m extra thrilled that our project is being backed by SK Arts so we can really go after our goals! It’s been a long road for this show, and there’s definitely an even longer journey ahead of us still, but I cannot wait to see what we achieve!

We Won Doras!

A Tonic for Desperate Times took away 3 Dora Mavor Moore awards at 2022’s celebration! I feel so grateful and excited by the recognition, but at the end of the day, just so thrilled that I got experience these wins with such a rockstar ensemble. I love every one of them to bits and being able to see everyone in the same place again is not a luxury afforded to people in show business frequently! What a special night :) -Sierra H.

DOra Mavor Moore Award Nomination

August 29th, 2022.

In more of a personal note, today, I woke up to find out that I’d been nominated for my first Dora award alongside some absolutely fantastic and inspiring artists. I couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble to share this with, and I couldn’t have asked for a better company to have had the honour of creating theatre with in the fall of 2021.

Looking forward to the results, but also ecstatic that I got here at all! Wow! - Sierra

MISS CALEDONIA

By Melody A. Johnson

Starring Sierra Haynes

with Emily Dubois

Miss Caledonia follows a small-town girl with big dreams of the lively city and lustrous allure of fame. But this farm girl has a plan. First, convince her mother and father to let her start competing in pageants. Then, learn all there is to know about pageants; posture must be perfect, smile always, master whatever poise means, and magically discover a hidden talent. From there it’s a straight shot from Miss Furrow, Miss Sweet Potato, to Miss Queen o' the Grand River Pork Producers' Association, and then, finally – Miss Caledonia. How hard could it be?

This 1950’s tale of Miss Peggy Ann Douglas and her rise through pageant life is a classic Hollywood dreams story, with the sweetest twists. As much as Peggy longs for a life outside her small town, her circumstances always seem to bring her back to her farm life. While fumbling through learning the ins and outs of what it means to be a pageant girl, Peggy discovers that determination and staying true to her roots just may get her the tiara she’s been dreaming about.

Premiering in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant west end at Historic St. Anne’s Parish Hall, A Tonic for Desperate Times is a communal experience of resilience and courage.
